Great atmosphere! The bartender makes a mean Moscow Mule. The HWA hosts an annual reading series: Women in Horror Month at KGB Bar.
The KGB Bar is a great venue for theater, performance, and readings. I'm most familiar with the bar on the second floor, where I attend the Fantastic Fiction monthly readings, and it's a really fun place to hang out in.
Classic dive spot with baltica at the ready.
Almost too dark, with the steep stairs. Would love it if they included wall lamps
Good bar to meet new People
Awesome bar, good ambiance, good service, interesting artifacts. Overall a fun time.
Such a quirky place, I WILL be back. Stage on level 2 was sufficient too!
such a nice place. great place for family meet up and gatherings.
Cool vibe.
Such a nice place. On the top flor, you will find find the red room, with jazz gigs of all sorts. People laugh, meet, dance. It’s always different and it’s always fun.
Cool and unique space that makes it very unique atmosphere. Prices are a bit high
Great bar for anyone looking for a Soviet Union aesthetic. Dimly and warmly lit. If you have trouble finding it, it's on the second floor once you head up the stairs.
Nice bar and ambience
Great social club/pub.....legend...all love all love love is god
Highly recommend.
Really fun bar.
I can’t believe this bar exists. A true hidden gem. It’s been here since forever and I hope it never goes away.
Nice bar and ambiance. Solid jazz and blues performances
Nice
TYPICAL DIVE BAR UP A STEEP SET OF STEPS. THEY DO A FUN SHOW WITH UKULELE PERFORMERS. THE DRINKS ARE A LITTLE PRICEY BUT NOT UNUSUALLY HIGH FOR NYC. DECENTLY CLEAN BATHROOM,PROFESSIONAL STAFF. I THINK YOU'RE ALLOWED TO BRING YOUR OWN FOOD AS LONG AS YOUR BUYING DRINKS.
Amazing experience reading here!
A delightful place.
KGB Bar is an absolute gem. It's cozy, comfortable, dimly lit, somewhat hidden, and the walls are all decorated with Soviet era photos and posters. The staff is super friendly on top of it. Enter the doors under the neon sign, then follow the stairs up one flight above the Kraine Theater to find the bar on your right. Try a Baltika if you're going for the full experience!
Another NY Icon. The Red Room Upstairs has storytelling shows, Live Jazz.. Definitely a must see.
Love the nightlife here and array of different drinks. It always takes the edge off my crazy days at work. Every neighborhood needs a KGB bar. Thanks guys
Watched the infinite wrench show here. Loved the show, loved the people, loved the vibes.
Came here on Tuesday night really cool vibe, good music, and nice people. Drinks were fairly priced for New York. Bartender and bouncer were both good people.
Another excellent program 6 May 2019
Great place old school love it
Overpriced drinks and rude service. I believe they were just making up drink prices as they went along too. On one occasion, I went up and ordered 1 Stella and 1 plain club soda. That round total came to 12 dollars. When I asked how much the Stella cost, I was told that it cost $9 and the club soda cost $3 (club soda should be free IMO, as it is most places). The next time I went up to order a round, I got 2 Stellas and 1 club soda. That round cost $14. No idea what was going on.
Brilliant old bar friendly staff .. old school .. literature readings .. good music .. great chill hang out for artists and artphile
Pretty good entertainment however I have never encountered a nastier bar tender than upstairs in the Jazz lounge. She made me immediately turn and leave despite the good comedian. No comedian was worth giving her ANY of my money. Also drinks upstairs are SO expensive for how dirty the bar is and every event has a two drink minimum (many you also must buy a ticket). You won't leave spending less than $25 (buying bottle beer) plus ticket and fee. After leaving the first bartender we found that they serve better priced drinks (that are exactly the same) on the second level but don't allow you to bring them upstairs.
An old style Russian bar... No TV no other disturbances, get good Vodka and enjoy your night
Live jazz music was amazing but READ YOUR RECEIPT!!!!!!! Ordered a cocktail that was listed for $12 that was essentially alllll ginger beer with a blue moon in the bottle. Bill was charged $15 for cocktail and $8 for blue moon. When questioning the server he stated, "tax would be ABOUT $2 and then I added an extra $1" since when is tax and random amounts added in at whim without a separate breakdown of the actual amount. This is completely unacceptable and I will not be back because of these sleazy tactics. The music was the ONLY thing enjoyed. Unacceptable
Great Soviet themed hideaway bar on the second floor of a townhouse walk-up. You feel like you're drinking someplace clandestine, except that most locals have known about it for years.
Only
Sometime Swing-Jazz nights in upstairs bar.
Great decor/ambiance
Theme is fun, but still drab inside
Not impressed but great music
Interesting vibe. There’s a communist flag and political memorabilia on the wall. The selection is small as is the bar! It’s on the second floor of a building (I believe it’s a theater downstairs). They have Baltika which is what I would describe as a Russian Heineken!
Very interesting place. When I asked the bartender what his well whisky was like he said “it’s not as bad as you would think it might be.” And it wasn’t.
Great chill place
A true hole in the wall like none other. Even had poetry reading the night I went. Don't tell anyone about this gem.
If these walls could talk! The perfect space for poetry, prose, and everything in between.
Cheap drinks and cool decor. A rare uncrowded Manhattan bar!
CCCP <3
Does what it says on the tin.
Fun place. Great people. Can go to the bar after a theatre performance on the same building.
Old school NYC with a great vibe
